Kyra is the Founder of Heroica. She manages the platform, focusing on the business & administrative tasks involved as well as the social media handles.

Why Heroica?

I created Heroica because I wanted to create a place where women and gender minorities could tell uncensored stories without hesitation. I wanted to be part of changing the media landscape to be more representative of our true society.

Anyone who starts a business will tell you that it has its challenges. Believe me, Heroica has had and will continue to have plenty of challenges. This isn’t my first business venture and so I can truly confirm that it ain’t easy! But our mission to share these voices and the beautiful stories we receive from writers is truly what motivates me to keep pushing forward. There is very little I would rather be doing.

Copy Editor & Submissions Manager

Megan is Heroica’s Submissions Manager and Copy Editor. She reads contributor pitches, commissions articles and edits the pieces that you read on the site. When she isn’t reading or editing, she can be found in the local charity shops searching for vintage goodies or wandering around Edinburgh’s museums and galleries.

Why Heroica?

Heroica’s platform is both visually and substantially marvellous.

Many times I have read through pitch submissions and thought: wow, I’m not the only person who thinks that, did that, feels that way. That sense of shared experience is a wonderful thing and can help to break stigmas, ease shame and assist healing.

In contrast, I’ve also read about perspectives and experiences that I have never had (and some that I never will have). Many pieces that I’ve edited have been eye-opening and have widened my understanding of the spectrum of the female and non-binary experience.

Heroica is honest, educational and intersectional. These qualities are why I chose Heroica, and why I’m proud to have a hand in building the burgeoning community around it.
