Sleep

By Tilly Aistrop

my eyelids wind down

and I’m lost again

pulled into a second gravity

where I fall forever

into a new void

one even colder

even lonelier, than the last

and I feel my heart harden

into dull stone,

and my flesh pull away,

until I am one

skimmed rock,

tapping on the surface

of a starless night sky,

the ripples of my

silent life,

reaching out soundlessly,

where no one is looking.
